The Imitation Game by Ian McEwan

North Country Theatre directed by Nobby Dimon

Little Theatre, Holme Street, Hebden Bridge

8.00pm
£9 (£7)

Following the sell-out success of the hilarious Confession of Brother Wormwood NCT now turn their attention to more serious matters in this moving story of a young woman’s experience of World War 11. This is the first stage adaptation of Booker prizewinning author Ian McEwan’s television play first shown on BBC’s Play for Today in 1980. “A ‘Play for Today’ of rare distinction” (Clive James, The Observer). Cathy is keen to make a meaningful contribution to the war effort and joins the ATS against the wishes of her parents and fiancé. She becomes a wireless operator in Special Operations recording the German Enigma signals that are dispatched to Bletchley Park for decoding but soon her frustration at not being employed to her full ability, together with her tendency to speak her mind, land her in an emotional and legal minefield.
