Hi Laura! Welcome to Hebden Bridge. There are about four families that I
know of currently home educating in Hebden Bridge, but throughout West
Yorkshire there is network of about fifty families, most of whom are members
of Education Otherwise (www.education-otherwise.org).
Many of us get together weekly at the Calderdale school of PE at Wellesley
Park in Halifax. They run a gym class for home educated children on Mondays
at 11:30. It's an unstructured class, so the children can charge about and
do what they want, but there are two gym coaches on hand to help out. The
equipment available includes a trampoline, set into the floor, a nine foot
deep pit filled with foam cubes, and a full range of beams and bars. If you
want directions let me know.
We used to meet in Hebden Bridge at the Salem Community Centre (who gave us
the space for free) twice a month for organised activities, but the people
who did all the organising got fed up so that doesn't happen any more. If
there were more people interested in helping then there's no reason why it
couldn't start again.
I hope that's been helpful!
