Support your community

What can we do? There's plenty of things we can & should do to stop the drift to a commuter based dormitory town and I feel it's vital that we do, especially in light of the BBC's decision to relocate a large section of its operation to Manchester - where do you think all those employees with their London mortgages will want to live?

Northlight will not be squeezed out of Hebden Bridge, we are busy searching for other premises and looking at interesting uses of space combining workspaces, artist studios with community space and social housing- the other great need within HB to maintain it's diverse mix.

So what can you do?

Let us know if you have a building you want using!

Write to your local MP / Planning department/ Calderdale Councillors expressing your concerns, hopefully that will make them consider consultation with the community over use of redundant buildings and allow them time to raise capital before they sell them off in remote auctions. Join and support your local social housing group, Green & Pleasant, who are valiantly pursuing solutions to housing needs for local people. Basically get involved with your community, it's yours & it needs you.

I first came across Hebden Bridge in 1984 when I was involved with raising funds for the miners support group, even though HB is geographically as far away from mining communities as you could possibly be in Yorkshire the people then were passionate about the social injustices, I believe that community spirit still exist.

Morning Jack, I'm most certainly not the above mentioned Mr C. It hadn't occured to me until now the implications of abbreviating my name!
