Techniques | Commercial photography
PETER HOLLINGSLandscape photographerI work as a freelance commercial photographer and as well as photography, which is not so much a job but more a way of life, I enjoy music, drama, travel, life, the universe and everything. I live and work in Luddenden, a village tucked away in the Pennines between Halifax and Hebden Bridge, in West Yorkshire. My bread and butter work is commercial photography - providing images for brochures, exhibitions, books etc. The subjects can range from actors to motorways, from juggling equipment to electronic components. My real love, however, is landscape photography. I originally started working on landscapes purely for my own enjoyment. I wanted to try and capture more than just the visual aspect of a scene in my photographs - when I look at my work I want to feel the experience of being there. Encouraged by a modicum of success in this direction, I set about establishing a simple way of working - stripping away all the technical stuff and fancy gadgetry - to end up with a technique which is now as automatic to me as swimming or driving a car. This enables me to concentrate on the subject and its atmosphere.
