Car Co-op makes motoring cheaper and greener

Sunday, 25 January 2015

With few signs of economic upturn in the Upper Calder Valley, there's a car share scheme that could really help your post-Christmas belt tightening.

"Owning a private car is an expensive business", said Kevin Hogan, Hour Car manager, based in Hebden Bridge. "It costs you thousands of pounds just to have it parked outside your house.

"But Hour Car offers an efficient, low cost alternative to private ownership: car sharing.

"For an annual membership fee (less than most drivers' road tax), you have access to a range of vehicles that you can hire when you want, for as long as you want and only pay for that time – even just half an hour! Vehicles can be hired from town centre spots in Todmorden, Hebden Bridge and Mytholmroyd.

"You can make huge savings compared to owning a car, or a second car, possibly as much as a thousand pounds a year.

"And it's really green", Kevin added. "Hour Car members use cars much more efficiently, and radically reduce the CO2 they use on travel."

"Christmas has been as busy as usual for Hour Car hires, but now it's quieter again. We're having a recruitment drive to attract new members to the benefits of hassle-free driving".

If you use a car less than 12 hours a week, it could well be worth joining Hour Car. You can look at the website: www.hourcar.co.uk or email Kevin at hourcar@yahoo.co.uk or phone him on 01422 847971.
