War on Want say no to Trade Deal

Sunday, 1 February 2015

War on Want say no to TTIP at the TradesWar on Want Executive Director John Hilary will be talking about the charity's campaign against the proposed Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) at the Trades Club.

The presentation on Valentine's Day will focus on TTIP, which War on Want say is a comprehensive free trade and investment treaty being negotiated - in secret - between the European Union and the USA that threatens to undermine our democracy, our jobs and our public services.

War on Want's slogan is 'Poverty is Political' so John will also talk about the charity's other campaigns including 'Justice for Palestine' and 'Love Fashion, Hate Sweatshops'.

Trades Club Secretary Ed Stutt told the HebWeb, "The Trades now has a reputation as one of the UK's top live music venue, but throughout our history we have always been a hub for passionate debate in the Calder Valley.

"John Hilary is an internationally respected fighter against poverty, and given the massive implications that TTIP has for all of us, we wanted to make sure local people had a chance of to find out what it is all about as information is power."

John's talk begins at 12.30pm on Saturday 14th February at the Trades Club and for information on the TIIP campaign go to this War on Want page
