Calderdale bye-election results

Liberal Democrats have held on to the Calder Valley seat at yesterday's bye-election. The total number of votes polled was 1,935 and the turnout was 22.2 per cent. The votes were cast as follows:
  • Liberal Democrat: Janet Battye, social worker of Pecket Well - 883 votes
  • Green Party: Jamie Johnson of Hebden Bridge, a volunteer worker at the Alternative Technology Centre - 235 votes
  • Labour: Mike Towl, research asistant for Alice Mahon - 448 votes
  • Conservative: Craig Whittaker, a member of Heptonstall Parish Council - 364 votes

The by-election was held after the resignation of Liberal Democrat Julie Dower who has moved away from the area.
