HOUSE MENTOR
- Louise Harrison

Thurs, September 7, 2006

Louise Harrison has created a unique new business which will surely appeal to people living in Hebden Bridge. Aimed primarily at people selling their homes, it may well be a service which could be of use to many of the rest of us with varying degrees of clutter and disorder around the house and office.

Louise has told the Hebden Bridge Web of studies which have shown that potential buyers make a very quick decision when viewing a property - often as little as a few seconds.

House mentoring can provide vendors with the reason why their properties are not selling or being let and, more importantly, provide a set of solutions. Image and presentation are vital in influencing people's decision whether to buy or not. Consequently, potential vendors appreciate that house mentoring is a worthwhile investment.

Louise arranges to visit properties for verbal consultation before preparing a detailed report with recommendations for each room. Use of space, clutter, room styles may be included in the report, along with guidance and tips on sales techniques. Follow up visits are arranged as necessary.

We were intrigued at how Louise had developed such an unusual business. She explained to the Hebden Bridge Web that she had bought, renovated and sold several homes over the past 20 years. "The idea for the business finally came after viewing nearly ten houses in one exhausting day with my daughter who was househunting, and seeing the poor state in which many of them were presented. I realised that I have discovered a natural talent and flair for home presentation. I can easily pinpoint problem areas in a home and come up with imaginative resolutions to difficulties in selling or letting."

Louise has lived in Hebden Bridge all her life, has a degree in English and History and taught English from Basic Skills to GCSE at Calderdale College. Becoming disillusioned with teaching, she decided to utilise her skills and talents as a person with a keen eye for detail and interiors, and all things to do with buying and selling houses, and set up her own business helping people whose properties have 'stuck,' to sell theirs!
