Penny wood works in the classic tradition of landscape painters, physically engaging with the natural  world.  She can often be spotted wandering the hills and coastal paths of Northern England with a rucksack full of paints, pastels and drawing books.

Her large scale paintings are derived from sketches made on such wanderings.  They are characterised by their strong, heightened use of colour.  Although she employs bold expressive brushwork, collectors of her work have noted how the paintings resonate a contemplative presence.

This exhibition marks the first of a new series of short exhibitions showcasing work  by Northlight Art Studio members that will take place throughout the year. Exhibitions will take place over a weekend when the studio gallery area will be open to the public and can then be viewed by appointment for the following two weeks.

Details of forthcoming exhibitions and events can be viewed on the studio’s website
