Brawn not brains at Cabaret Heaven

Sunday, 20 September 2009

The world’s strongest lady Betty Brawn will be flexing her comedy muscles and performing awesome feats of strength at Cabaret Heaven on Saturday September 26th.

Betty headlines the first Cabaret Heaven of the new season at the Trades club and the Australian claims to be strongest woman on the planet inheriting the brute strength of her father and the grace of her mother.

Her acts harks back to sideshow freak shows of the Victoria age to create an act that was described as ‘breathtaking’ by the Sydney Morning Herald. Betty was a huge hit at the Glastonbury Festival including a surreal TV appearance where she carried DJs Mark Ratcliffe and Zane Lowe around on her shoulders.

Support on the night and even more laughs comes from drag prima ballerina Madame Galina Korsakova who dances into the valley after a critically acclaimed sell-out run at the Edinburgh Festival.

State of Undress

The weekend kicks off the effervescent rootsy fiddle band State of Undress on Thursday September 24th making a welcome return after headlining the club’s Thanksgiving event celebrating the election of Barack Obama.

State of Undress have been described a being ‘bubblier than an Aero' who aim to put a smile on your face and get the crowd’s feet tapping. They are on the road to plug their well-received new album ‘Livin’ it and Lovin’ It’ and Rock ‘n’ Reel described their live show as ‘a performance that marries verve, power and a lung busting joie de vivre.’

On Friday September 25th the People Get Ready Crew set up shop with DJs Johnny Boy, Dillenger P ands Frank Panther promising a seriously funky mix of Motown, Northern Soul. Ska, funk and early 70s disco. Dress code is 70s ghetto fabulous and the team want to see if valley folk can shingaling or do the mashed potato.

“The Trades is absolutely delighted to welcome back our friends at Cabaret Heaven especially as they have got such a top quality bill including the world's strongest woman and they are even bringing in extra chairs so everyone can get a seat,” Trades Club Spokesperson Paul Clarke told theHebden Bridge Web.

“State of Undress were a huge hit at our Barack Obama celebration so it’s great they are back with what is of the most exuberant and joyous live shows on the roots circuit.”
