Independence for the Upper Calder Valley

From Robert Morris

Sunday, 10 May 2026

It's surely time for the Upper Valley to break away from Calderdale. The wards of Luddendenfoot, Hebden Bridge & East Todmorden, and Todmorden West, between them elected 5 Green and 4 Labour councillors. No Reform.

The rest of Calderdale voted almost totally for Reform candidates.

The Upper Calder should not have to collaborate with far right extremists.

Lets create a happy valley of hope, kindness and co-operation.

Regards independence for the Upper Calder Valleys, surely what we need is to be proactive beyond our own doorstep, not shut ourselves off in the smug bubble we are often accused of in Hebden Bridge. We are part of the broader world, like it or not.

Independence from what? To what? Never heard such a naive half-baked idea.

I agree with Bo J - now is not the time to close ranks and create some kind of politically gated community.

Check your privilege and before you get too complaisant have a look at some of the voting figures - Reform weren't that far behind in some instances.
