Parking Charges

Posted by Peter Hayton, Thursday, February 28, 2002

In reply to Tim Brooks' letter of February 22nd 2002. It's not a case of being able to afford a car, i.e. some people need a car for work purposes. Where do the tourists walk from, Tim? York, Edinburgh, London? The parking charge of 30p is the thin end of the wedge. It will go up as time goes on, remember VAT when that was first introduced? It was somewhere in the region of 5%. I was in Middlesbrough a few years ago, I can't remember what the parking charges were, but I did notice the council members and council office workers had their own car park provided free of charge. Who will be getting those perks in your town Tim?
