Born in the area

My mother, Winifred Campbell, was evacuated from London in 1941, when she was expecting me. She lived at Gibsons Mill, with her sister Eva, also from London. My father was in the 8th Army in N. Africa by that time. I was born in Nov 1941 at Halifax Hospital, and shortly after that, we all moved back to London. I visited Gibsons Mill briefly about 18 years ago, in the beautiful National Trust countryside there. I would appreciate if anybody has any memories of that time, what it was like to have to receive evacuees from London.

I have lived in Santa Cruz, California since 1967, and still love to come back as often as possible to visit Yorkshire, particularly around Sheffield.
