Chernobyl: 20 years on

Saturday, April 22, 2006

An exhibition of images taken in the 30 km exclusion zone around Chernobyl will open on 26th April at the Alternative Technology Centre, Hebble End Mill, Canal Side, Hebden Bridge to coincide with the anniversary, exactly 20 years ago, of the worlds worst nuclear disaster.

Forty nine thousand people from the town of Pripyat 3 km from the blast were moved within two and half hours once the order to evacuate had been given - the evacuees were never to return and the town remains as it was left. The pictures were taken in October last year by Hebden Bridge photographer Steve Morgan.

Everyone welcome from 3.00pm on Wednesday 26 April - the exhibition will run until June.
