Handmade Parade Launches Book Celebrating Ten Years
Handmade Parade is launching a book celebrating ten years of its glorious parades through the streets of Hebden Bridge.
Joyful Streets: Ten Years of Handmade Parade, has been written by author Linda Green and artistic director Andrew Kim. The 96-page book tells the story of those who have helped make the parade such a success and is illustrated with the work of local photographers including Ian Hodgson, Craig Shaw, Darren Fleming, Nigel Hillier, Graham Wynne and Chris Ratcliffe.
As well as the Hebden Bridge parades, it covers the Valley of Lights and Lamplighter Festivals and parade work across the North of England and further afield.
The book, designed by Mike Barrett, will be launched at the Hebden Bridge Town Hall Café at 7pm on December 7 and all are welcome. Copies, priced £15, will be available at the launch (cash only) or, from December 8, at The Book Case, Hebden Bridge Visitor Centre, The Egg Factory, Heart Gallery, Spirals and Just Books.
Linda Green, co-author and former Chair of the Handmade Parade Board, said: “The tenth year of Handmade Parade seemed like an ideal opportunity to celebrate what an amazing amount has been achieved and how the parade has embedded itself in the town’s calendar.
“We particularly wanted to tell the stories of the lead artists, volunteers, musicians and participants who have done so much to make the parade the event it now is.
“The trickiest part was undoubtedly selecting the photographs from the hundreds which have been taken over the years, but we hope we’ve managed to produce a book which is a marvellous memento for all those who love the parade – and just in time for Christmas!”
The book, which will also be available online from the New Year, is being published as part of Handmade Parade’s Parading the North tenth year, made possible with the support of Arts Council England, Big Lottery Fund, Calderdale Council, Hebden Royd Town Council, Todmorden Town Council, Creative Minds and Community Foundation for Calderdale.
