Valley Food Festival
for the month of May

Thursday, 30 April 2009

The first ever Valley Food Festival will take place throughout May in Hebden Bridge and the surrounding areas. Celebrating local food and local producers it reflects all aspects of the food chain - from Fork to Fork!!  The event boasts a huge range of activities including a Farmers Market, beer brewing lessons, plant swaps and foraging walks.

The Festival launches on Friday 1st May with a tour of Little Valley Brewery in Cragg Vale.  There will be a Farmers Market taking place in Lees Yard, Hebden Bridge selling fresh produce from the local area and farm animals will be  in the square itself, a first in a long time in Hebden Bridge!  Children are welcome to come along and have a go at feeding calves and chickens.  There are a number of other activities for children to get involved in, such as an afternoon of Fruity Fun at the Children’s Centre (Bridge Lanes) on May 20th and the much anticipated Biggest Slug Competition on the 23rd!

Local shops and eateries are getting involved by showcasing local food and creating awareness of just how much of what we eat can be sourced locally, helping to support farmers in the area as well as often being a healthier option.  Look out for posters in shop windows and food themed window displays.

Included in the festival are a great range of events for beer lovers - a tutored beer tasting is taking place at Stubbing Wharf pub as well as a lesson on how to brew your own.  A beer and Hymn singing festival is planned for the final day of the festival at St. Michaels Community Centre, Mytholmroyd.

In addition to the one off activities there are numerous other events running throughout the month such as a Composting/Wormery Exhibition, demos of ideas for gardening in a small space and a Bee-keeping Exhibition,  all at the Alternative Technology Centre, and a Sausage Trail around the town.

When you take a look at the full program you find that there really is something for everyone to get involved in and enjoy.

Enjoy the festival!
