Don't bash an MP Bash some Balsam instead!

Tuesday, 2 June 2009

BalsamSaturday is River Day for Calder Future - the partnership which engages volunteers to improve the waterside environment in Calderdale - and for communities alongside the River Calder and its tributaries. This year the emphasis is on ‘balsam bashing’, so why not work off some of that frustration about the current state of political affairs in a constructive way!

There’ll be no fewer than three ‘balsam bashing’ events in Hebden Bridge, one on the riverside walk to Hardcastle Crags (at 10am; assemble hump back bridge at end of Spring Grove), the second along the railway embankment near to the Station (assemble there 1pm) specially for young people (16-25 years) and followed by a picnic; and the third in Knott Wood in tandem with the Breathing Places Open Day organised by Knott Wood Coppicers (at 10am; call Christoph 07856 124366).

There are also balsam bashing events in Colden Clough (10.30am; call Finn Jensen 01422 846863) and Eastwood (10am; call Abigail 01706 818863). Full contact details for the event organisers and meeting points can be found on the Calder Future website:

The events in the Upper Valley have received financial assistance from Action Earth assisted by Morrisons Supermarkets, who have provided £50 towards skip hire and some extra treats.

Calder Future will provide gloves, any equipment and training that is needed and all you need to provide is enthusiasm, strong footwear, clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty and a willingness to make a difference to your bit of waterway!
