Fox clean up

Fox and Goose regulars showed they were prepared to get their hands dirty to help save their favourite pub.

A team of volunteers from the Fox Friends joined in Hebden Royd Town Council's annual Big Spring Clean in Hebden Bridge at the weekend, to raise money towards the campaign.

The Friends, who are bidding to turn the Fox and Goose into West Yorkshire's first co-operative pub, cleared up the community land in the Cuckoo Steps area around the pub – so helping to create a better environment for customers at the same time.

Along with all the other organisations taking part in the Spring Clean, the group earned £60 for their funds – which will go towards buying professional services for the project.

Fox Friends steering group project officer Peter Hayward, (pictured second from right) who co-ordinated the team, quipped:
"Well that was a good game - we've won a TV, a mattress and a Victorian earthenware hot water bottle! And not to mention £60 for the Fox Friends community fund."

The cash will go into the coffers along with £180 already raised by the Benevolent Barrel at the first Fox Friends Friday Fundraiser in the pub. Regulars and supporters took just three hours to empty a barrel of Tod Blonde real ale donated by Little Valley brewery in Cragg Vale.

Some people enjoyed themselves so much that they have offered to support the cause by sponsoring a Benevolent Barrel themselves to keep the money rolling in.

There will be an Easter egg-stra Fox Friends Fundraiser at the Fox and Goose this bank holiday weekend.

Pub customers will have chance to win a luxury Easter egg in a special fundraising raffle. The egg, worth around £10 has been donated - in the co-operative spirit - by Hebden Bridge Co-op. Proceeds will go into the Fox Friends funds being raised to pay for professional services. Other prizes include CDs from Sid's music shop in Market Street, a bottle of champagne and a number of other tasty treats. Tickets will be on sale at the Fox and Goose bar.
