Good news for local bee group

Wednesday, 18 July 2012

Wadsworth Bee Group, part of Wadsworth Environment Group, has been lucky enough to receive a £460 grant from the Co-operative Community Fund this week.

Michael Smith, who lives in Hebden Bridge and sits on the Co-operative Area Committee panel that assesses the grant applications, was able to present the cheque and was given a jar of Wainsgate Honey produced by the bees last autumn.

The group has been looking after honeybees in the area for more than a year now, and has gained in confidence and expertise.

Members have been trained by Halifax Bee Keepers Association and Todmorden Bee-Credible Group. The grant will enable the beekeepers to buy more hives and equipment to help fulfil their aim of increasing the honeybee population in Wadsworth.
