The Poetry Shop

@Festival Shop, New Oxford House, Albert Street, Hebden Bridge

10.00am to 5.00pm daily except Sunday when we open at noon

The Poetry Shop: an installation about Hebden Bridge and the wider world. Discover poetry by international poets, children's authors & illustrators and local children. Experience it in unexpected ways. Listen to answerphone messages from writers around the globe and hear poems in the comfort of a specially made armchair. The Poetry Shop is a room where poetry has escaped from the page and onto the walls.

Children have been working with poet John Hegley and professional artists to explore the place they live by taking photographs, making drawings and writing poems to be made into picture postcards.

The Poetry Shop is specially created for the Hebden Bridge Arts Festival. This is a unique new version of The Poetry Lounge, which was made for the Royal Festival Hall in 2002.

Designed by Jane Revitt with Lizzie Lockhart.

Additional design & construction by Steve Gumbley and David Burnop.
