I could not believe my ears when I heard a Radio Nederlands story about Miss Rusty, her book and the over the top recaction by the school in sacking her.
Honestly, as a senior, seasonsed bureaucrat in the Australian Public Service I'd thought I seen and heard it all re mindless application of rules and political correctness gone mad. Clearly I was mistaken.
At least the kids she helped appreciated her efforts.
I sincerely hope that this saga has at least woken up the educational authorities to the fact you can turn kids around (hey maybe if there were more Miss Rusty's there would have been less disconnected youth to riot? - its a thought).
