Thanks to the Trades Club!

...for a fantastic weekend of free music.

I know everybody has differing views of the place, but as far as I'm concerned it is one of the main things that makes Hebden Bridge what it is. It may have had some ups and downs over the years but it seems to be on serious up at the moment.

There was a moment on Monday afternoon when I was dancing with my small son ( to the Owter Zeds) between the hay bales outside on the street when I looked up to see lots of beaming faces and I just knew that at that moment, we were enjoying the most rocking and unusual street party in the country. You just don't get that sort of thing anywhere else.

Well done, thanks, and here's to another 30 years of the venerable institution ;-)

Well said Rob!!

The last few days were The Trades Club at its best. Free community music, lovely food and splendiferous ale!! Massive respect to all involved!
Things are indeed on the up at the Trades Club. There is a massive amount of new energy and things are changing at quite a pace!!
Nothing fundamental, the Trades Club remains a member's club with Socialist values and a proud history but Mal, the new Entertainments Manager is implementing things [like the new stage!!] that are going enhance the Club as we move forward..

There is now an Entertainment Committee [of which I am a member] and we are booking into 2013 already!!

If anyone has a suggestion, knows a band that would/should play the Trades or wants to help out and get involved. Please do!! Feel free to email me!

NME recently voted us the best small venue in the North West. That along with the likes of Patti Smith, Inspiral Carpets, The Orb, Eat Static, Scritti Politti and many more all set to play means the only way is up!!

Phil M, dunno if they'd do it but if you could get The Fall on that would be a coup.

Yes a fantastic line up over the weekend, thanks to all concerned and i really appreciated being able to take them inside for a bit to hear the music up close as well.

I vote the Fall too, i heard last year the club was reluctant to put them on as tickets would have cost close to £20 but well worth it for the mighty Fall.

Whilst we're on the subject of how good the Trades Club is these days, I'd like to mention the HX7 jazz club, organised by Dave Nelson. You'd expect a jazz club to put on eclectic music, but this really pushes the bounds, with acid jazz, dubstep (apparently, though I'm not quite sure what that means) as well as everything else you'd expect from good jazz music. It's tempted me back to live music events after years of feeling like I'd heard it all before. So I'd like to thank Dave in public for his amazing efforts in bringing live music of all sorts to Hebden Bridge.

I was also impressed by the presentation from local solicitor Keith Lomax about the disgraceful evictions of gypsies and travellers at Dale Farm. The Trades Club is the heart and the soul of this town.

I wouldn't hesitate for a second in putting The Fall on at £20 a ticket, Andrew. That figure is way off, sadly...

It was an amazing gig with the Zeds gig rocking as usual. My highlight was the ska version they did of Happy Birthday to The Trades. Alongside the fact that the Owter Zed's are only a couple of years younger than the Trades!

Further to my earlier posts, I'd just like to say that we really appreciate the support of the people of Hebden Bridge. I know the club has a special place in many Hebdener's hearts & we're determined to live up to that - in the improvements that we are making to the building itself and the calibre of events that we are putting on. Here's to the next 30 years!
