‘Being Frank’ confirmed for Hebden Bridge Film Festival

Film Festival: 22-24 March 2019

Being Frank: The Chris Sievey Story will be shown as part of the first ever Hebden Bridge Film Festival. Revealing the hidden creator behind Manchester comedian Frank Sidebottom, the official documentary uses home movies, TV archive football and a range of celebrity interviews to explore the life and art of the late Chris Sievey.

Produced, directed and edited over seven years by Filmmaker Steve Sullivan, the film has been made with the blessing of Sievey’s family. Steve will attend the festival and provide a unique insight in to the making of the documentary.

The festival takes place from Friday 22 March to Sunday 24 March. Across the weekend there will be a range of other films from the UK and around the world with a series of special guests.

Louise Wadley, Hebden Bridge Film Festival director, said, “We are delighted Being Frank. The Chris Sievey Story joins the line-up for the inaugural Hebden Bridge Film Festival. The theme for the festival is 'The Other' and 'Dare to be Different' and the misunderstood genius Chris Sievey perfectly encapsulates this.”

Steve Sullivan said, “I am so excited to bring Being Frank: The Chris Sievey Story to Hebden Bridge. A key theme of the film is to embrace your creativity, to take your idea and go and do it! Where better to showcase the film and allow people to find out more about the enigmatic and mysterious Frank Sidebottom than Hebden Bridge.”

“I was thoroughly entertained and moved by this documentary. I highly recommend it.” – Susan Sarandon

“A pop-culture outsider gets his colourful due.” – Hollywood Reporter

“Being Frank” has the fascination of an enduring pop footnote, and it could be the kind of cult film that “Frank” wasn’t.” – Variety

Being Frank: The Chris Sievey Story joins opening film Wild Rose on the festival programme. Further festival programme announcements are coming soon.
