Pub drinkers taking over Hebden Bridge Square

From Jez L

I am fed up with having to shoulder my way through the throng of drinkers on our public square. The atmosphere is edgy, unfriendly and unsociable. The pub makes no attempt to control it and treats it like their beer garden. Great, they should make money from the tourists - but not at the expense of our square.

For all the money spent on pedestrianising the square, for all the leafy architectural models of children bouncing balls and mummy shopping, it's turned into the Seventh Circle of Hell on a sunny afternoon.

Add the amplified busking and you pray to have the traffic back.

Pedestrianisation is always seen as a positive thing but only if the space is used respectfully.

(Oh and don't get me started on the A-boards and outdoor seating that forces wheelchair uses over the bumpy cobbles. I love Hebden but even I have to admit that the town centre is pretty vile at the weekends.)

The amplified busking is a real pain. I don't use the cafes on the square when it's happening.
