Lives Remembered - Pamela Goodison/ Nancarrow
(27 March 1937 – 7 March 2026)
Pamela was adopted to a Methodist couple in Slaithwaite and excelled in her education getting a degree and a husband at Leicester University.
Determined to make a difference to people lives less fortunate than her with a strong sense of right and wrong she went into social work and race relations after a short stint as a home economics teacher.
She and my father adopted my sister Rachel Margaret, at a time that inter-racial adoptions were considered OK. My other sister Lisa and finally myself was born. We all lived in a small cottage in Leicestershire but upon divorcing my father she came home. Back to Yorkshire and settled first in Windsor Road, Hebden Bridge and then came to settle in Luddendenfoot.
She retrained as an alternative healer and opened The Pennine Healing Centre. At the ripe young age of 70 she did a master's degree in fine Art and had a studio and a few exhibitions. Art was her passion as well as taking care of rescue dogs.
She was a huge character as anyone who encountered her would agree. She was fierce, fun, formidable and always defended the underdog.
She will be missed by many and touched many people's lives with her intelligence, feminist politics and want for a better world.
