Dare you take on the Buttress?

Up the Buttress - by bikeCome and experience a new timed hill climb from the the centre of Hebden Bridge up the cobbled incline towards Heptonstall.

The Buttress (it's a one in three gradient in places) is part of national cycle network route 68. Local enthusiasts have decided that this highly challenging ascent needs celebrating as an event in its own right.

Not for the unfit or faint hearted, the hardest and steepest 350 metre climb out of Hebden Bridge is set to take place on 10th September from 1pm-5pm and has already attracted lots of interest. Who will be the fastest, mountain bikers, roadies or cyclocross? The challenge has been set.

The event has generated lots of interest from the local bike businesses and several have donated some fantastic prizes; including a 'Diva' bike frame donated by Orange a Ragley bike frame, a set of race clothing for fastest junior and many more! Our very own energy drink suppliers, Yorkshire Tea, are also sponsoring the event.

Up The Buttress is organised by expert biking enthusiasts and is part of the South Pennines Walk & Ride Festival. This is one of several Calderdale biking events to celebrate the walking and cycling opportunities available in this beautiful area.

Katie Kinsella ? Principal Officer for Tourism in Calderdale has been closely involved with organising the Calderdale Cycling Festival commented: "Up The Buttress event and others provide a fantastic opportunity for Calderdale to be showcased as an area for outdoor activities.

"Working with the local enthusiasts to arrange these events has been a great experience, their local knowledge and expertise is invaluable. We hope that the Festival will grow year on year and improve the cycling opportunities in Calderdale for visitors and local people."
