Out in the Valley

Tuesday, 5 October 2021

Out in the Valley provides a safe social space for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (Trans), Queer, Intersex and Asexual (LGBTQIA+) and their allies in Hebden Bridge, Todmorden, and the Upper Calder Valley.

The aim is to encourage and support members to suggest and participate in social activities that bring the LGBTQIA+ community together.

They believe social activities that are inclusive and encourage diversity help to build a strong, safe and visible community.

Socials run on the last Thursday of the month and alternate between Hebden Bridge and Todmorden. Some events are held online.

During lockdowns Out in the Valley had Zoom quizzes and events such as poetry and story-telling. More recently, they began in person socials in safe outdoor spaces such as Fox and Goose terrace in Hebden Bridge and Nan Moor’s in Todmorden.

Hebden Royd Town Council and from Calderdale council’s Ward forum have provided funds for a community quilt project based on the famous AIDS quilt for ‘coming out day in 2022.

There is a board of 10 people who are committed to engaging with members.

The next social is at the Fox and Goose on 28 October.
