Lumb Falls: car access to be restricted

Wednesday, 5 October 2022

Calderdale Council proposes to restrict parking on the Haworth Old Road by making it a residents permit parking zone, all the way from the junction with the A6033 Keighley Road to the end of the adopted highway, which is just beyond Thurrish Farm.

The Council say that, particularly in the summer months, there have been frequent concerns raised by residents regarding significant obstructive parking due to inappropriately parked vehicles belonging to visitors to 'Lumb Falls' restricting access.

Residents make the case that inappropriate parking creates congestion, compromises air quality, presents a problem in terms of road safety, as well as obstructing access for residents and the emergency services. Removing parking from the road will help to make the area safer.

The proposed restrictions will allow only permit holders to park on any part of this road, with exemptions for emergency services, delivery vehicles, refuge vehicles, maintenance vehicles etc. Agricultural vehicles going about their regular business will also be exempt.

Relevant signing will be placed at the start point to make sure it is clear what the restrictions are along this road. The Council considers an experimental order to be appropriate because the implications for the surrounding road network are uncertain and it will enable officers to assess whether this is the correct restriction for the area and identify any alterations which may be required.

As such, the impact of the experiment will be regularly reviewed, monitored and assessed whilst the order is in operation

During the first six months of the experiment, there will be an opportunity for people to contribute their views and anyone who is opposed to the restrictions continuing on a permanent basis to submit an objection.
