Sunday, 13 August 2023

The Centenary Album - Hebden Bridge Little Theatre: An Illustrated History 1924-2024 by Vaughan Leslie

If you feel that Hebden Bridge Little Theatre has been around forever, you're not too far wrong!   Next year it will be 100 years old!

And, whilst 2024 will play host to a plethora of celebrations and special events to mark the achievement, the ball starts rolling this September with a book launch for The Centenary Album – 'Hebden Bridge Little Theatre, An Illustrated History 1924-2024.'

The full-colour 100-page volume, penned by acting and directing stalwart Vaughan Leslie (see photo below, in middle, directing), provides a definitive history of the theatre, from its foundation to the present day. It chronicles its highs and lows, with particular focus on the personalities who made it such an important part of the local community.

Leslie says, "I have used the images collected from my assembling of the digital archive from scratch over the last six years to provide over 200 photos, and I've found out all I could from contemporary sources, press articles, our own publications, libraries and the internet. There are some fascinating anecdotes and even the odd scandal."

Everyone has the chance to buy a copy of this souvenir publication and enjoy refreshments provided at an open afternoon held at the theatre – located in Holme Street, Hebden Bridge – from 2pm to 4pm on Sunday September 3rd.

The book costs only £15. If you can't make this date, then details of other ways of purchasing it can be obtained by contacting info@hblt.co.uk.
