Free Women's Filmmaking Workshops

The Hebden Bridge Film Festival is delighted to announce the return of its popular free filmmaking workshops for women, taking place this autumn at the Todmorden Learning Centre.

Following the success of last year's sessions, this year Hebden Bridge Film Festival will host 2 groups of workshops, designed to support, inspire, and empower women interested in exploring filmmaking in an inclusive and creative environment.

Workshop dates

The workshop dates are: Group 1 - November 16th & 23rd, and Group 2 - December 7th & 14th, with a final joint session taking place on January 18th, 2026. Open to all experience levels, these sessions will offer participants the chance to collaborate, learn hands-on skills, and develop their own short films in a warm and welcoming space.

The workshops are made possible through the continued support of Calderdale Council's Culturedale programme and, for the first time, Screen Yorkshire.

"We're so pleased to be working with Screen Yorkshire for the first time this year," said Festival Director Louise Wadley. "Their support, alongside Culturedale, makes it possible for us to champion women's creativity here in Calderdale, helping talent grow, confidence flourish, and their unique stories come to life on screen."

Jenny Tighe, whose short film "The Bench" was produced during last year's workshop, went on to be selected to screen at the 2025 Hebden Bridge Short Film Festival where it was awarded with the Sticks and Glass prize. Of taking part in the workshop, Jenny said, "At a time thick in the trenches of motherhood and not doing much for myself, I massively stepped out of my comfort zone and I'm so glad I did. I would have never have entered the Short Film Festival without the belief and inspiration that the course gave me."
