Heritage Open Day: Hebden Bridge Town Hall's Fire Station.

Town Hall

Do you have any old photos, equipment or other memorabilia such as uniforms  from the original fire station which was built as an extension to the Town Hall, Hebden Bridge?  Staff there are making an appeal to residents who may have such kinds of memorabilia stored away in their homes, and may even be forgotten about and stored away in attics and cellars.

Chris Mackins, Project Development Office is asking members of the local community  "can we borrow any memorabilia that you might have from the Town Hall fire station.  We'll look after the items and return them back to their owners".

On Saturday 8th September, Hebden Bridge Town Hall will be  opening its fire station doors.  There will also be a fire engine on loan for the day,  which would have been typical of its type when the fire station opened as an extension to the Town Hall in 1898.  The fire engine will be loaned from the Fire and Police Museum.

The event forms an important element of a bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund which if successful will help  to restore the old Town Hall building.  Chris added that "it's important  to us as an organisation that we consult with members of the community. If we are successful with our bid, then next year the community will be able to see the Town Hall restoration unfold, as well as participate in a range of activities which will focus upon its heritage "

If you have any old photos, equipment, uniform etc from the Town Hall fire station, please contact Chris who can be reached at the Town Hall, or by telephoning 01422  845261 or by email.

The event also coincides with the he national Heritage Open Days, aimed at encouraging the public to explore the heritage within their communities.
