Hebden Bridge's rich community life on display at the Town Hall - and free cake too!

Town Hall

Hebden Bridge's lively and diverse range of community organisations will have a chance to promote their activities and recruit new members at the first Hebden Bridge Community Fayre, being held as one of the events to celebrate the completion of Hebden Bridge Town Hall.

The event will take place on Saturday October 13th, from 9am to 2pm.

Organiser Chris Mackins, project officer at Hebden Bridge Community Association, says that there are plenty of other activities planned to make the day go with a bang: "We are arranging for the local digital archive project with Pennine Horizons to make a series of short heritage presentations, we've got a time machine booked, and the Women's Institute will be offering free cake to the public who come along. I've tried to book a sunny day, but this may be a little more problematic."

The Community Fayre provides an ideal opportunity to explore fully the new Town Hall buildings, including the Waterfront Hall, the Terrace Room and the riverside courtyard. Visitors will also be offered tours of the old Town Hall. Hebden Bridge Community Association will be applying shortly for funding for a heritage restoration project for this building, to include work on the fine mosaic floors and the stained glass windows within the impressive council chamber. The bid, to be made to the Heritage Lottery Fund, will also include a range of community engagement activities designed to bring new understanding and insight into the history of the Town Hall.

The day is open to all, free of charge.
