Anne Lister: What did She Ever Do for Calderdale?

Saturday 4th February.
Bar opens at 6.45 and food is available. Show 7.45.

A Words and Music Event as part of Independent Venue Week takes place at Wadsworth Community Centre, Old Town HX7 8RY on Saturday 4th February.

Informative and fascinating Words will be from Jill Liddington, celebrated Mytholmroyd author and historian, and Hebden Bridge's Rachel Lappin, a volunteer at Shibden Hall, who works promoting Anne Lister and Calderdale. Jill was recently the subject of a Hebweb interview; her book, Female Fortune: the Anne Lister diaries 1833-36 inspired scriptwriter Sally Wainwright's television drama series, Gentleman Jack which was also based upon Jill's book, Nature's Domain: Anne Lister and the landscape of Desire.

Both Jill and Rachel will give a talk, be in conversation and there will be a Q and A session. The evening will look at the impact Anne Lister had and has on Calderdale.

In 1822, Anne's diary records that she listened to music played by Mr Roberts on a trip to Wales. The evening's Music comes from Fiona Katie Widdop, the Yorkshire Harpist, who will play music from Anne Lister's era including pieces by the Roberts family.
