2024 Bird Calendar

Tuesday, 12 December 2023

Roger O'Doherty has produced his fourth wildlife calendar featuring birds of the Calder Valley. Over the four calendars he has presented dozens of pictures of about 50 different species.

Most of these photos were taken within a few minutes' walk from his home in Mytholmroyd.

This year's calendar features Tawney Owls, Little Egret and Barnacle Goose as well as the more familiar Robin, Blackbird, Blue Tit and more.

"You might hear a Tawney Owl but rarely see one. A night hunter, the Tawney Owl needs to know its patch and protect it. They defend their territory vigorously.

"Repairing the damage to our biodiversity is important," says Roger, "and I hope my calendar encourages people to value what we have and protect it."

Roger has donated more than £7000 from his previous calendars to local food banks. He hopes that this one will bring that figure over £10,000.

His calendars are available in Hebden Bridge and Mytholmroyd Post Offices as well as in The Blue Teapot and Gina B's, price £10.

All profit from this calendar will be donated to Calder Food Support (Charity No. 1204752).

This is Hebden Royd Mayor's charity and donations can be made directly through the Calder Food Support web page
