Opening of Hebden Bridge
Station's Public Piano

Thanks to a Calder Ward Forum Grant of £450, The Friends of Hebden Bridge Station have been able to obtain another public piano for the waiting room on platform 2, after the previous one was vandalised.

To mark its arrival, a brief official opening took place on Friday 25th July.

The Mayor of Hebden Royd, Keith Butterick; Calder Ward councillors,
Sarah Courtney and Israr Ahmed; and pianist, Chris Browne

The Mayor of Hebden Royd, Keith Butterick, was joined by other Hebden Royd Councillors, Pat Fraser and Patsy Guilfoyle of Fairfield Ward, and Calderdale councillors, Sarah Courtney and Israr Ahmed.

Martin Whittell, Chair of the Friends, made a short speech and thanked Mrs. Joyce Danks of Darwen in Lancashire who donated the piano; Ben Treuhaft who located it and tuned and fettled it; the Friends' Secretary, Lesley Mackay, and Diana Monahan and local musician, Chris Browne, who showed off the piano by playing a selection of light music, thus making it a very enjoyable occasion.

Soon after the official opening, a member of the public entered the waiting room and asked if he could play the piano, so we were treated to some more delightful music.

Don't forget that the piano is there to be played by responsible members of the public, including supervised children.
