Local runner featured in documentary, with northern premier at the Picture House

A Hebden Bridge mother, vet and fell runner is set to take centre stage in the Northern premiere of a powerful new documentary film celebrating resilience, representation and belonging in the outdoors.

We Are Here will receive its Northern premiere at Hebden Bridge Picture House on Saturday 13 June at 4pm, with a special charity screening followed by a live Q&A featuring members of the cast and production team.

One of the film's central protagonists is Hebden Bridge resident Rebecca Devereux, a vet, mother of two and member of Calder Valley Fell Runners, whose journey through endurance running and family life forms a key part of the documentary.

Rebecca's husband, son and daughter also feature throughout the film, offering an honest and intimate portrayal of balancing family, work and the physical and emotional demands of ultra-distance trail running.

The screening takes place on a landmark weekend for the town's running community, as the legendary Spine Race - widely regarded as Britain's most brutal ultramarathon - also passes through Hebden Bridge on the same day.

Rebecca herself is no stranger to the infamous race, having placed third female in the Spine Sprint in 2025.

Directed by award-winning filmmaker Carrie Highman of Dream Lens Media, We Are Here follows seven Black British women as they prepare for and compete at the 2025 UTMB World Series Finals in Chamonix, one of the toughest mountain ultra-marathons in the world.

The film explores themes of endurance, identity, visibility and belonging in outdoor spaces where representation has historically been limited.

Speaking ahead of the screening, Rebecca said, "Hebden Bridge has such a strong running and outdoor community, so it feels really special to be bringing this film here. It's about so much more than running. It's about family, courage, community and showing people that they belong in these spaces too."

Executive Producer, and cast member, Sabrina Pace-Humphreys added: "This film is about more than running in the mountains. It's about visibility, belonging and challenging the idea of who gets to take up space in the outdoors. By standing on those start lines together, we are not just racing - we are helping reshape the future of trail running."

The event is expected to attract runners, outdoor enthusiasts and members of the wider Calder Valley community alike.
